In this month of honoring women’s history, we are celebrating the success of women famous in the history of the world. We pay tribute to those women who have overcome all obstacles and made significant contributions to research, science, and research. We know today that Kathryn D. Sullivan, the first American woman to travel in space and travel to the deepest point on Earth.
But, Who was the first American woman in space? It was Sally Ride.
In this month of honoring women’s history, we are celebrating the success of women famous in the history of the world. We pay tribute to those women who have overcome all obstacles and made significant contributions to science and research. Today we will learn about Kathryn D. Sullivan, who traveled in space and at the same time did research on the ocean. Kathryn D. Sullivan was the first American woman to travel in space
Kathryn D. Sullivan was simultaneously an oceanographer, astronaut, and a writer. She has been instrumental in creating and designing the Hubble Telescope. She then joined the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) from NASA as the first female administrator. Kathryn D. Sullivan served as Under Secretary at Oceans and Atmosphere during the Obama administration. She reached the bottom of She Marianas Trench in 2020. She was also the first person to travel to space and reach the deepest point on Earth, a feat that earned her a Guinness World Record. Her 35,810-foot dive is truly amazing.
Let's hear the story of this experience from her….
When I landed at the Marianas Trench on the Victor Veskovo's Underwater Explorer "Limiting Factor" sub, I was reminded of space travel. I was looking for similarities and differences between the experience of space travel and the experience of traveling to the deepest place with submarines. The funniest thing is that spacecraft and submarines are a lot like magic school buses. They are so well made that they are capable of overcoming any kind of obstacle. As a result, we can now go to places we can't go to normally.
